RAS Installation Guide

The Redacted Arms Selector (RAS) installs as a direct replacement for your existing AR-15 safety selector. Most installs are straightforward, but trigger compatibility and Lever Blocker requirements vary — review the compatibility table below before installing.

A full-auto / M16-style bolt carrier group (BCG) is required for the RAS to function.

Installation Steps

Prepare the Lower

Ensure the firearm is unloaded. Remove the Allen key grip screw, pull off the pistol grip, and remove the spring. Drop the detent out and set it aside — you will reuse it. Remove your existing safety selector and set it aside.

Disassemble the RAS

Remove the T10 screw on the side of the RAS to separate the lever from the shaft. Set the lever aside. Reinsert the spring onto the shaft.

Install the Lever

Drop the lever into the left side safety selector hole with the hook facing toward the buffer.

Install the Shaft

Insert the shaft into the receiver, feeding the end of it through the hole in the lever’s hook. Maintain pressure on the right side of the shaft to keep it seated. Align the keys on the shaft with the keys on the lever — wiggle it slightly until it seats fully.

Secure the RAS

Insert and tighten the T10 screw. If using a torque screwdriver, torque to 15 in-lbs.

Reinstall the Detent and Grip

Flip the lower upside down and drop the detent in pointy side down. Place the spring into the pistol grip, reinstall the grip, and make sure the spring drops into the detent hole. Tighten the grip screw fully.

Function Check

With the upper removed, cock the hammer and run through each position:

  • Safe — Pull the trigger. The hammer should not fall.
  • Fire — Pull the trigger. The hammer should fall normally.
  • Active Safety (middle position) — Pull the trigger to drop the hammer. Hold the trigger down, cock the hammer again, and manually move the lever rearward to simulate bolt cycling. The trigger should reset as the lever travels back. Release the lever forward. Once the RAS rotates fully to Fire, the trigger should break cleanly.
